On-loan Sheffield Wednesday defender Danny Batth is determined to put one over his former team-mates in the Steel City derby this weekend.

The 21-year-old made just a single substitute appearance for Sheffield United during a one-month loan spell at Bramall Lane last season before joining the Owls for the first time in March.

The tough-tackling centre-half returned to Wednesday from Wolves during the summer on a six-month loan deal and has been an ever-present in the club's back four this season.

However, as he prepares to face the Blades on Sunday in arguably the biggest game in League One this year, he revealed the Owls faithful took to him immediately, despite his past affiliation with their arch rivals.

Extra special

"It is a massive game in itself, which goes without saying, but obviously I was there for a month or so last season, so it does make it extra special for me having been in both camps," Batth told skysports.com.

"However, I'm a Sheffield Wednesday player now and I will be fully focused on putting one over them and getting the three points on offer.

"I didn't really play that much whilst I was at Sheffield United before Wolves recalled me and when I came here the fans were very open-minded about it because I think they saw that I could do a job for them at the end of the day.

"I came in at the same time as Rob (Jones) and we managed to help stop leaking goals, so since then the fans have been great with me."
