Jordan Henderson: Backing his old Sunderland boss Steve Bruce to turn things around

Former Sunderland star Jordan Henderson has backed Steve Bruce to ride out the storm at the Stadium of Light.

Bruce has found his position the subject of speculation after a poor start to the season on Wearside.

Henderson, who left Sunderland for Liverpool over the summer, is a big fan of Bruce and is surprised that his former manager is under so much pressure.

"It does surprise me the pressure he is being put under because last season we finished 10th which for where we were a couple of years ago was good," Henderson told the Daily Express.

Great manager

"The gaffer has brought in a lot of new players and they will take a while to settle in and gel together properly, but he is a really great manager and Eric Black [Bruce's assistant] is an outstanding coach as well.

"The gaffer is brilliant and, given time, he will take the club forward.

"It has been blown out of proportion and I am sure there will come a time when they go on a really good run."
