Burnley manager Eddie Howe says he will be 'fighting tooth and nail' to keep striker Jay Rodriguez at Turf Moor.
Rodriguez was a target for Southampton during the summer transfer window, but recently insisted he had not been distracted by speculation about his future.
The England Under 21 international has scored eight goals in all competitions so far this season and Howe recognises his importance to the Clarets.
"Jay is someone who you'd want to build your team around - a fantastic talent," said Howe.
"He's only going to get better, we'll certainly be fighting tooth and nail to keep him with us."
Howe's assistant Jason Tindall added: "The sky's the limit for Jay Rodriguez. He's a fantastic athlete, terrific in the air and scores all types of goals as a centre-forward.
"He'll play at the top level one day, but we've just got to try and make sure we keep him at Burnley for as long as possible."
