England Under-21 head coach Stuart Pearce will be without Connor Wickham, Danny Rose and Joe Bennett after the trio pulled out of the squad ahead of their European Championship qualifiers in Iceland and Norway.

Sunderland striker Wickham and Tottenham winger Rose are both injured, while Middlesbrough defender Bennett had to be sent home after picking up an illness.

As a result, Liverpool defender John Flanagan has been promoted from the under-19 squad.

Pearce has been left five men down from his initial 27-man party after Phil Jones, Danny Welbeck and Kyle Walker were all called into Fabio Capello's senior squad ahead of their crunch Euro 2012 qualifer in Montenegro on Friday.

The Under-21s face Iceland in Reykjavik on Thursday before taking on Norway in Drammen next Monday.
