Iron rocked by Ryan injury blow

Scunthorpe have suffered a blow with the news that midfielder Jimmy Ryan's knee injury is worse than expected.

The 23-year-old was originally set to be out for a month after suffering the injury immediately after scoring in the 2-2 draw with Walsall on September 17. However, tests have shown the injury is a lot more severe and manager Alan Knill fears the summer signing will be sidelined for a lengthy spell. "It looks like months rather than weeks," Knill told the club's official website. "He had a scan on Friday and the result wasn't very good. He has quite a bad tear at the base of his medial ligament and it's looking like a fairly long lay-off. "I am hoping he is going to be back before the specialists have said. Not just for us, but also for him. Jimmy is the sort of player who wants to be out there on the training pitch every day so personally it's a big blow."
