Ipswich boss Paul Jewell believes he is close to snapping up Manchester City youngster Reece Wabara on loan.
Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that Wabara was set for a move, and now the Ipswich boss has confirmed a deal is close.
With only a few minor details left to complete, the 19-year-old defender is expected to complete a move to Portman Road on Thursday.
Should a switch be pushed through, he will go straight into Town's squad for their home date with Brighton this weekend.
"We're hoping that will get done today," said Jewell.
"He's an England U20 international, is quick, can play at centre-back but right-back is his preferred position."
Wabara made his senior debut for City in the final game of the 2010/11 campaign against Bolton.
He is held in high regard by the Blues and spent the summer with England at the U20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Jewell has confirmed that Irish striker Daryl Murphy is still nursing the hamstring problem he picked up in midweek and is unlikely to face the Seagulls on Saturday.
He said: "He's had it for a while, we felt it wasn't worth the risk, we'll check him this morning."
