Torquay are targeting contract extensions for three extra players after Eunan O'Kane added two years to his current deal on Monday.
Chris Robertson, Kevin Nicholson and Lee Mansell have been star performers for the Gulls so far this season, with new boss Martin Ling impressed by their consistency and quality.
Ling was delighted to tie down O'Kane, saying: "Eunan was the most imminent one because of the worry about losing him for next to nothing next summer.
"If he went at the end of the season, at the age of 21, we would only have about 18 months' development to claim in any compensation claim. We could have lost him quite cheaply."
