Notts County midfielder Gavin Mahon is hoping he can earn a contract to stay at Meadow Lane until the end of the season.
Mahon joined the Magpies on pay-as-you-play terms last month and has started the club's last six League One fixtures.
The 34-year-old's current deal runs until early January and he is enjoying the chance to play regularly after missing the best part of two years due to injury.
He believes the Magpies have the potential to challenge for promotion to the Championship and he is anxious to remain part of Martin Allen's squad.
"I have spoken to the manager about staying until the end of the season and I'd like to, so if something happens I will be happy," said Mahon in the Nottingham Evening Post.
"I am really enjoying my football again after being out with a long-term injury for the first time in my career.
"I don't want to look too far ahead, but this team has got a chance of achieving something.
"Looking at the foundation we have got and the squad we have got we can go a long way. How far? We will have to wait and see.
"We've showed we can play well against some of the best teams in the division, so we have to keep our belief and mentality and see where it takes us."
