Stevenage winger says they should relish competition for places

Stevenage winger Robin Shroot insists the whole squad needs to perform to help the club succeed this season. Boro are 12th in League One following their promotion through the League Two play-offs last season. They achieved one of the shock results of the division so far this season with a 5-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last Tuesday. However, their next game ended in a 2-0 home defeat to Notts County - an inconsistency mirroring their league position. This weekend manager Graham Westley takes his side north as they face Carlisle, who have made a similar start to their League One campaign. Despite playing in Stevenage's first six games of the season, Shroot was left out of their games against the Owls and the Magpies. The Northern Ireland attacker is hoping that he gets another chance to impress at Brunton Park. He told skysports.com: "It is the furthest trip in the league for us this season and that should give us extra determination to bring back the three points after going all that way. "We know that they are a good side and it is never easy to go to Carlisle, but it is a challenge that we will relish. "There is a lot of competition in the squad and we've had a mixed start to the season, with a great result against Sheffield Wednesday and then losing to Notts County at home."

Momentum

"It was obviously disappointing to pull off a great result and then not carry that momentum on into the next game. "In any team sport in the world it is always good to have competition for places because it makes players fight harder to keep their place in the side. "We need to make sure that everyone from 1-25 is putting a shift in to help this club move forward."
