Martinez hails Maloney potential

Latics boss a big fan of new signing

Maloney: Highly rated by Wigan manager Roberto Martinez

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez believes he can unlock the huge potential of new signing Shaun Maloney at the DW Stadium.

Scotland international Maloney joined Wigan from Celtic on a two-year deal on transfer deadline day last month.

Maloney has seen his progress for club and country blighted by a series of injuries over the last couple of years, but Martinez believes the 28-year-old is a unique talent who can thrive at Wigan if he is enjoying his football.

"What is important now is that Shaun is injury free. He's got a fantastic football brain, he's got great experience and I want him to enjoy his football in his most important years of his career."
