Fiorentina are still hopeful of convincing Riccardo Montolivo to sign a new contract with the club before his present one expires next June.
The 26-year-old has less than 12 months to run on his present deal and the club have been working assiduously to try and get him to extend it.
Negotiations between the player and club have dragged on all summer but as yet no deal has been concluded.
The Florence-based outfit are keen to retain the midfielder who has been at the club since 2005 and would be loath to lose him for nothing next summer.
A new contract offer is on the table as the club try and step up attempts to keep their Italian international.
Team manager, Vincenzo Guerini, said: "Montolivo has had an important meeting with Andrea Della Valle [Fiorentina's owner]. We're waiting for a reply soon; I hope that he stays with the club."
However, CEO, Sandro Mencucci, would like a swift conclusion to the saga and has given the player a deadline of this weekend to decide his future.
"We want to have a definitive answer from Montolivo before next Sunday."
