Bayern and Germany midfielder aiming high in coming year
Bastian Schweinsteiger has set targets of enormous magnitude this season as he seeks success on all fronts for club and country.
The midfielder wants the Bundesliga shield and the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich, topped off with a Euro 2012 triumph with Germany.
The 27-year-old believes all three feats are more than achievable, with Bayern beginning their European campaign at home to Villarreal on Wednesday.
And Schweinsteiger, who is vice-captain to Philipp Lahm for Bayern and Germany, is motivated by the Champions League final being staged in Munich in May 2012.
"I am aiming to win the Bundesliga as well as the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich this season, I am also looking to win Euro 2012 with Germany," he told Bild,
"The UEFA Champions League final of 2012 is staged in Munich, I am wanting to win the trophy in front of our home crowd then.
"We have a strong squad and I think we are among five or six teams that have to be regarded as favourites to land the trophy.
"Still, we have to be aware that Villarreal, Manchester City and Napoli will be strong opponents already in the group stages.
"Basically I feel winning both titles with Bayern this season and winning Euro 2012 with Germany is actually more possible than ever.
"And, clearly, I'd love more to lift the Champions League trophy in our home country than at some other place in Europe."
Bayern are top of the Bundesliga table on goal difference with 12 points after five games.
