Bayern Munich have been dealt a blow with the news that winger Arjen Robben will miss Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Villarreal.
Bayern had been hopeful that the Dutch winger would have recovered from a groin injury in time to feature in their Group A opener.
However, he has lost his fitness race and now joins Ivica Olic, Daniel Pranjic and Breno on the sidelines ahead of the midweek match in Spain.
Robben has been nursing the injury since the end of August and has missed the last two league games, including Saturday's 7-0 demolition of Freiburg.
"He is still feeling the effect of his injury which will not allow him to play against Villarreal," the club said after coach Jupp Heynckes named the same squad as for the Freiburg win.
This season's Champions League final will be held at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena on 19th May next year.
