Arsenal's new signing Per Mertesacker was left in awe after making his debut for his new club.
The Germany international helped his team to a slender 1-0 win over newly-promoted Swansea as they looked to erase the memory of their 8-2 thrashing by Manchester United.
And for the former Werder Bremen stopper, his first full 90 minutes was a heart-stopping experience.
"I still have goosebumps," Mertesacker told Bild.
"We are in the motherland of football. It was something special."
Arsene Wenger has received a torrent of criticism for his inability to hold onto the club's stellar names and his failure to replace them adequately.
Yet, for his new towering defensive recruit, the French manager is still amongst the best practitioners in the game.
"Wenger is a huge personality," he added.
"He trusts me 100 per cent, gave a short speech. In training we practise a short, precise passing game. That will help me improve."
The Premier League is widely acknowledged as the most physically demanding domestic competition in the world.
Having played his entire career in the Bundesliga, the 26-year-old knows it's an adjustment he will have to make quickly.
However, it is something that he is confident that he will do.
"I have sensed that everything is fiver per cent more intensive, the tackles, the tempo," he admitted.
