Twente new-boy sets sights on debut

New FC Twente signing Leroy Fer is hoping to make his debut for the Dutch side against Roda JC on Saturday. The young midfielder trained with Twente for the first time on Thursday following his summer move from Feyenoord. Fer, 21, wants a chance to prove himself at the Enschede club. He told Voetbal Primeur: "I am fit and would like to show what I can do. "The coach said that I must prove myself to the team. That's what I'm trying to do. Hopefully I'll get some playing time in Kerkrade." Coach Co Adriaanse has moved to play down comparisons between Fer and attacker Bryan Ruiz, who departed for Fulham on transfer deadline day.

Different

"Bryan was a principal scorer. Leroy is a midfielder," he said. "He has other qualities. The players are not totally comparable. "The departure of Ruiz and, earlier, Theo Janssen, means FC Twente will soon be showing a different kind of football. "That seems logical to me. We have other players." Fer admits the chance to play for silverware and in Europe with Twente was the main motivation behind his move from Feyenoord. "This club is playing for the title and at European level," he added. "That means I'll develop better. "It took a while before the clubs sorted things out. Fortunately, everything is solved now and I can begin here. "The departure was not easy, but that's normal when you've played somewhere for so long."
