Striker expected to be fit for Sunderland's high profile game

Ghana have played down injury fears over Sunderland's Asamoah Gyan ahead of Saturday's clash with Chelsea. Gyan was in goal-scoring form for Ghana in their 2-0 win over minnows Swaziland last Friday before he was stretchered off after 38 minutes with a thigh compliant. The injury has ruled him out of Monday's prestigious game against Brazil and there are concerns he could be out injured for some time.

Muscle tear

Percy Anan, Ghana's team doctor, told their official website: "The scans revealed that there was no muscle tear in his thigh but he felt contusion in the area. He would be able to return to action soon." Gyan, though, struggled to mask the disappointment of missing the game against Brazil, which is one of the highlights of every player's career. He said: "I would have really wished to feature in this one but I totally understand what the medics are saying. It's fine by me and I will cheer the guys on."
