Espanyol will have to make do without the services of winger Felipe Mattioni for six months due to knee ligament damage.
The 22-year-old, who joined the Barcelona-based club last summer on a five-year contract, has damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will now require surgery.
Mattioni suffered a serious injury to his left knee last season and was expected to recover this campaign. However, he now appears to remain on the sidelines until February next year.
Espanyol made a disappointing start to the new Primera Division season last weekend as they lost 1-0 to Real Mallorca away from home.
