Doncaster Rovers' star striker Billy Sharp has hinted that his recovery from ankle ligament damage is progressing well.

The £1million forward suffered the injury during Doncaster's opening day defeat at Brighton giving manager Sean O'Driscoll a team selection headache with several of his other first-team players also out of action.

Despite an X-ray revealing nothing had been broken, the club were forced to admit that their sharp-shooter would be out for months rather than weeks.

Sharp, who has been recovering using crutches and an ankle boot to aid walking, tweeted on Friday saying that he will be stepping up his rehabilitation.

"People asking how my injury is, boot comes off Monday and can step the rehab up, still only been four weeks tomorrow, running after six weeks," he wrote on Twitter.

Rovers are currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship with just one point with their next encounter being a trip to Cardiff on September 10.
