Lucho Gonzalez insists that he was not looking to leave Marseille this summer, despite being linked with Arsenal.

The 30-year-old midfielder was reported to be an Arsenal target before the transfer window shut as the Premier League outfit looked to replace Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

But, after also making an inquiry about Yoann Gourcuff, the Gunners ultimately secured a deadline-day deal for Everton's Mikel Arteta.

And, while Lucho was pleased to be associated with Arsenal, the Argentina international claims he did not seek a summer switch from the Stade Velodrome.

"I never wanted to leave but I appreciate that Arsenal were interested in me," he told Argentinian newspaper La Nacion.

"That made me proud, as it would any footballer, especially one of my age.

"But we did not reach an agreement because they were looking for a younger player who would fetch a bigger fee in the future."
