Manager Gus Poyet has confirmed Brighton are close to signing former Spain and Valencia winger Vicente.
Skysports.com reported on Wednesday that the Seagulls are near to signing the 30-year-old on a free transfer.
Vicente, who was released from the Mestalla at the end of last season, appears to have been persuaded by Poyet to join the Championship leaders.
He made over 300 appearances for Valencia, winning two La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey, and was capped 38 times by Spain although his career has been blighted with injuries.
Brighton will be able to sign the player outside the transfer window as he is a free agent.
"I'll be delighted if it goes through. It's massive for us," Poyet told the Argus.
"Who would have thought we would be signing a player who has played in the Champions League and won La Liga twice?"
