Sky Sports sources understand Manchester City's Wayne Bridge has turned down a loan deal to Celtic.
The 31-year-old is way down the pecking at Eastlands and spent the second half of last term on loan at West Ham.
Left-back Gael Clichy arrived this summer from Arsenal to intensify competition for that position, while Aleksandar Kolarov is still at the club.
But despite his apparent precarious position within the pecking order at the
club, he has chosen to shun the interest of the Scottish club.
And he will now have to wait and see if he is included in Roberto Mancini's 25-man Premier League squad.
If he is not, the former England international faces the potential ignominy of being left in the cold until the transfer window reopens in January.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been earnestly looking for a left-back after Emilio Izaguirre suffered a fractured ankle.
