Darren Bent and Joleon Lescott were withdrawn from England training on Tuesday as the squad stepped up preparations for their Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales.
Aston Villa's Bent is one of four strikers in Fabio Capello's squad along with Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll and Jermain Defoe.
He has featured heavily for the Three Lions over the past few months and will hope to play against Bulgaria on Friday.
Lescott faces plenty of competition for a starting berth in Sofia but his versatility across the defence is always useful for Italian tactician Capello to have available.
Bent sat out training due to a slight groin injury and Lescott had an ankle problem, but the measure is viewed as precautionary with the duo expected to join in with the rest of the group on Wednesday.
Capello will not want to have any more serious fitness problems to contend with after goalkeeper Robert Green had to pull out of the squad due to injury earlier on Tuesday, with Derby's Frank Fielding called up as cover.
The England manager has set his sights on taking maximum points from the two upcoming fixtures as he looks to pull clear of Montenegro at the top of Group G.
