Hogg: Has joined Watford on a three-year contract from Villa and could face Birmingham
Watford have completed the signing of midfielder Jonathan Hogg from Aston Villa on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Skysports.com revealed on Friday evening that the 22-year-old was poised to end his time at Villa in favour of a move to Championship side Watford.
He had been on Villa's books since he was a teenager and made the breakthrough into their first-team set-up last season, making his debut against Manchester United.
Hogg was handed a new contract by Villa shortly after making his top-flight bow, with the fresh terms tying him to the club until 2013.
He was, however, loaned out to Portsmouth in January and he attracted interest from several clubs over the summer after impressing at Fratton Park.
Watford have now won the chase for his signature and Villa boss Alex McLeish has paid tribute to Hogg following his move
McLeish said: "Everyone at the club wishes Jonathan well and every success in his career.
"Jonathan has a great attitude and we know he will do very well as a player at Watford."
Hogg is in contention to make his debut against Birmingham City on Sunday after he also signed loan forms to ensure he is eligible to play at Vicarage Road.
He also becomes the second player to leave Villa for Watford within the space of 24 hours after striker Andreas Weimann returned for a second spell on loan on Friday.
