Derby County manager Nigel Clough has revealed his delight after defender John Brayford penned a contract extension.

The 2010 summer signing from Crewe, who won Derby fans' player of the year in his debut season last term, has signed on until June 2014.

Having played under Clough at Burton Albion, the full-back took no time getting to grips with the Championship level after two seasons in League One and League Two with Alexandra.

"This is fantastic news for Derby County and we're delighted to announce John has extended his contract," Clough told the club's official website.

"He is a joy to work with and it is significant for this club that someone with his potential and consistency of performance has committed his long-term future here.

"We're almost at the stage now where John's good performances go uncommented on because they are delivered in a typically understated, professional and dedicated way."

Brayford, 23, was the only Derby player to play every minute of every game last season and also received back-to-back fans' player of the year awards whilst at the Alexandra Stadium.
