Scunthorpe United have brought in Manchester United midfielder Oliver Norwood on loan until January.

Norwood has yet to make a first-team appearance for United, but is already a full Northern Ireland international and had a spell on loan at Carlisle United last season.

The 20-year-old is eligible to face Newcastle United in the Carling Cup on Thursday and Iron boss Alan Knill is still in the market for more new signings.

"Hopefully we are going to try to get someone else, or maybe a couple, before the weekend, for the game against (Sheffield) Wednesday," said Knill.

"We are low on numbers. With all the games, we are picking up a few injuries so we need a stronger squad.

"But we will just have to wait and see. I am looking to strengthen everywhere."

Norwood told the club's official website: "I'm really excited to be here. I first heard about the move last Thursday but we couldn't get the deal done in time for the weekend.

"I spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson on Saturday morning and he said it's a really great club to come and play at.

"Every one of the lads has made me feel really welcome. I was feeling a little nervous before I came in so to meet such a friendly bunch was really reassuring."
