Youngster making huge strides under new boss

West Brom have rewarded teenager George Thorne with his second contract of the summer after impressing Roy Hodgson. The 18-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the option of a further year and is travelling with the first-team squad for the Carling Cup game against Bournemouth on Tuesday night. Having made his Premier League debut in the Baggies' final game of the last campaign at Newcastle, he joined the first team for their entire pre-season preparations in which he excelled. "I have been very impressed with George since I arrived at the club," Hodgson told the club's official website. "As a coach, I'm also very pleased that his efforts this season have been rewarded with a new contract. "It is a result of the fact that he has become a bona fide member of our first-team squad and he is a player we very much hope will continue to develop and progress as rapidly as he has done in the past six months."
