Sky Sports sources understand Queens Park Rangers have expressed an interest in Newcastle full-back Danny Simpson.

Reports suggest contract talks involving the defender at St James' Park have broken down.

The 24-year-old is tied to the Magpies until the summer of 2013, but discussions have been held regarding an extension.

With no agreement reached as yet, QPR hope they can take advantage of the uncertainty and lure Simpson to the capital.

Alan Pardew will be reluctant to part with an important member of his first-team plans, with the former Manchester United man having made the right-back spot his own at Newcastle.

The Magpies boss will, however, be aware that every player has his price.

QPR could test his resolve before the summer transfer window slams shut, with Neil Warnock now in a position to spend following Tony Fernandes' successful takeover at Loftus Road.
