Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are 'likely' to appeal the red card handed to Gunners debutant Gervinho against Newcastle on Saturday.
The Ivorian forward, who arrived at Emirates Stadium from Lille this summer, was dismissed in the latter stages of the goalless draw at St James' Park following an altercation with midfielder Joey Barton.
The Magpies man accused Gervinho of diving in the Newcastle penalty area before hauling him to his feet and sparking a mass scuffle.
Barton then fell to the floor claiming he had been punched by the Gunners new-boy - although replays showed it was a slap - prompting referee Peter Walton to brandish a straight red card.
The Newcastle player stayed on the pitch, with Walton choosing to book him.
Asked if he would appeal the dismissal, Wenger told Arsenal's official website: "I am likely to."
