Steve Cotterill has revealed Portsmouth are set to finally add some new recruits to their wafer thin squad next week.
Pompey are expected to bring in two new faces - one on loan and the other on a permanent deal - to add some fresh impetus to their Championship challenge.
Chelsea left-back Patrick van Aanholt and Aston Villa utility player Chris Herd have been linked with the South Coast club in recent weeks.
And they would appear to be players that would fit the bill the Championship club are looking for.
"There is a loan player who I want to take and I've spoken to the (his) manager about it this week," Cotterill told The News.
"That's one that I can deal with straight with the manager but he is still a little bit light in his own squad at the moment.
"When you want to take players from the Premier League, managers are reluctant to let players go until they have filled their own squads - and rightly so."
He added: "You wouldn't want to be giving yourself another problem.
"We're in dialogue; the player is interested and wants to come, so that's always a bonus.
"The player's agent wants him to come so we've just got to wait and try to be patient with that one.
"Hopefully, we can have him for the rest of the season. I would be happy with that. He's only a young player but he's a good young one."
