Preston boss looking to bring in Norwich defender on loan

Preston North End manager Phil Brown has confirmed his interest in signing Norwich City defender Steven Smith on loan. Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that Brown is keen to bring in Smith to boost his options at left-back. Smith spent the second half of last season on loan at Aberdeen and the SPL club had been interested in a permanent deal. However, Dons boss Craig Brown feared being priced out of a move for the 25-year-old, who could now link up with Preston. He watched the Lilywhites' 3-2 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Deepdale on Tuesday evening and Brown confirmed he has been in talks over a deal. Brown told the Lancashire Evening Post: "The only comment I can make is that there is open dialogue between the two clubs and hopefully something can be sorted out."
