Celtic coach Alan Thompson has described losing defender Emilio Izaguirre for up to six months as a 'nightmare'.

The Bhoys' first-choice left-back is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his ankle in Sunday's 1-0 win at Aberdeen.

Izaguirre is due to see a specialist, although the 25-year-old is expected to be sidelined for no less than four months.

Former Dons defender Charlie Mulgrew has filled in for the Honduran, although Thompson knows quality left-backs are sparse.

Nightmare

"It's a nightmare, no matter how early in the season it has happened," commented Thompson.

"But we can't use it as an excuse for losing our way in the championship because you have a large squad to compensate for injuries.

"However, we are getting down to the bare bones in defence and might need to get a player in. Left-backs are few and far between."
