Rafael van der Vaart is confident Luka Modric will still be at Tottenham Hotspur when the transfer window closes.

Playmaker feels team-mate will be happy again in a few weeks

Rafael van der Vaart is confident Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Luka Modric will still be at White Hart Lane when the transfer window closes. Modric's future has been the subject of intense speculation over the summer, with Spurs having already rejected two bids from London rivals Chelsea. The Blues are understood to be ready to make a third bid for the Croatia international, who has previously suggested he would be interested in moving to Stamford Bridge. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has insisted that the midfielder is not for sale and manager Harry Redknapp has described Chelsea's offers as 'ridiculous'. Van der Vaart acknowledged Modric was initially disappointed by the club's stance, but expects his team-mate to continue to give his all for Tottenham. "I'm really happy that he's going to stay because he's an important player for us," Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News. "I'm happy, of course. Almost every day we ask him to stay and say 'have a great season, then you can go!' "The chairman always said he's going to stay, no questions about it. "I understand he was a little bit disappointed, but in a few weeks he's going to be happy again."
