Big-spending Leicester City have confirmed the signing of Switzerland midfielder Gelson Fernandes from French outfit St Etienne.
The former Manchester City and Cheivo player has penned a season-long loan deal and could make his debut in the Foxes' season opener at Coventry on Saturday, subject to international clearance.
Leicester boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, who worked with Fernandes at Eastlands, believes the 24-year-old is the ideal player to help their promotion push.
"Gelson is a hugely experienced footballer and we are delighted that he is joining us at King Power Stadium," the Swede told the club's official website.
"Gelson played for me at Manchester City and has also played in Serie A and Ligue 1 in France. He has great energy and determination, qualities which will help us this season.
"We are trying to ensure that we have two players for every position and I am sure that Gelson will have a good effect on the squad and the team."
