Morecambe have completed the signing of Nick Fenton following the experienced defender's departure from Rotherham United.

Fenton left Rotherham at the end of last season and he has now accepted a two-year contract with League Two rivals Morecambe.

He has been training with the Shrimps in pre-season and manager Jim Bentley is happy to have added the 31-year-old to his squad.

"I have known Nick since my days as a youngster with Manchester City and I have always rated him highly," Bentley told the club's official website.

"He is a leader and a real presence on the pitch and he has proved in pre-season just what a good player he is.''

Morecambe have also signed goalkeeper Shaun Routledge on a one-year contract after he also caught the eye in pre-season.

Bentley added: "Shaun was given a couple of weeks to impress and he has done well in training and he will be a good addition to our squad this season.''
