Charlton Athletic have confirmed the club are in talks to sign goalkeeper Ben Hamer from Reading.
Hamer has made just five first-team appearances for Reading and enjoyed loan spells at Brentford and Exeter City last season.
The 23-year-old could now drop down to League One level on a permanent basis after the Addicks revealed they have been given permission to speak to Hamer.
Meanwhile, ahead of the start of the new season, Charlton boss Chris Powell is also hoping to add another striker to his ranks.
"These things are ongoing at times - you make calls and you hope things happen sooner rather than later," Powell told the club's official website.
"I've done a lot of my business early on in pre-season, but I've always said that if I can improve our squad and I'm allowed to do it, I would.
"The striking department is somewhere I have to beef up. I feel that I need four strikers for the up-and-coming season."
