James Milner hopes Manchester City team-mate Mario Balotelli will learn from his mistakes following his latest controversy at the club.
Balotelli found himself in the headlines for the wrong reasons again after being hauled off by City boss Roberto Mancini for showboating after just 30 minutes of his side's friendly with LA Galaxy.
The 20-year-old infuriated Mancini when he was sent clear of the home defence, but instead of attempting to score normally, he tried a complicated pivot, followed by a backheel which rolled wide.
The Italian international has been warned about his future behaviour by Mancini after the pair exchanged words on the sidelines following his substitution.
Since arriving at City last summer, Balotelli has courted controversy after being caught up in a number of incidents and Milner hopes the striker will learn from such experiences.
"Obviously I would like him to put that into the back of the net, but Mario is Mario, he does some strange things sometimes," Milner told Sky Sports News.
"I think he's shown since he's been here he has obviously got great potential, but he's still young and still learning and hopefully he will get better and maybe learn from these sort of experiences."
