Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has hinted he could be offering a contract to Michael Ball.
Eriksson handed the former Everton and Rangers left-back his solitary England cap in 2001 before Ball played under the Swede at Manchester City.
The 31-year-old has been without a club since leaving City in July 2009 but has been on trial with Leicester, travelling on their tour of Sweden.
Ball has impressed Eriksson during pre-season, featuring in victories over IK Sirius and Vasalunds.
And Eriksson has admitted Ball could well do enough to earn a deal with the Championship promotion hopefuls.
"If he goes on like this, without getting injuries, I am sure we will offer him a contract," said the Leicester boss.
"He is a good player, he is experienced and he is good for the dressing room."
Ball has trained with Wigan and Blackpool during the last two seasons without earning a contract with either club.
