Serie A outfit enter the race for Costa Rican starlet

With a proposed move to Arsenal on hold, Fiorentina have entered the race to sign Joel Campbell. The Costa Rica international was expected to complete a move to Emirates Stadium, with officials at his current employers Deportivo Saprissa claiming a deal was in place. Campbell has, however, opted against making a switch to England at the present time, with it is intention to give his full attention to the U20 World Cup in Colombia. Arsenal are now in danger of missing out on the highly-rated 19-year-old, with a number of other clubs set to enter the clamour for his signature. Serie A outfit Fiorentina are among those looking to leave the Gunners empty-handed, with an offer having already been put to Campbell.

Opportunity

Joachim Batica, a Fifa agent working as an intermediary for Deportivo in the transfer discussions, told La Nacion: "He has lost a great opportunity. From the outside he seems to be passing up the best opportunity of his life, but I still don't know how the matter will end. "I will do my best to give Joel other opportunities. I will continue working to see if there is any chance of re-opening negotiations. "There is also an offer from Fiorentina for Campbell. Joel is aware of the offer and is discussing it with his family. It is a good deal, both from a sporting and economical perspective. "There is also strong interest in France for Joel."
