Oldham's Phillip McGrath has suffered a major setback after sustaining a second cruciate ligament injury in less than a year.
The 19-year-old, who has represented Northern Ireland at junior level, picked up his first injury to his right knee at the start of last season. It took McGrath eight months to regain fitness and he was handed his League debut at Swindon in the final away game of the campaign before signing a new 12-month contract. However, the same right knee gave way on the training ground and a scan has revealed a tear to the cruciate ligament. He saw a specialist on Wednesday and further surgery has now been scheduled for August 11, which will be followed by another lengthy period of rehab.
