Bury boss Richie Barker hopes Ryan Lowe will stay at Gigg Lane after the club turned down another offer from Stockport.
Non-league County have made two bids, neither of which came close to the Shakers' valuation of the 32-year-old striker.
"Stockport did make another bid for Ryan and we gave them our feedback," Barker told the Bury Times.
"We said that if he was to leave the club, there is a price we would want for him and we have had no contact since.
"I have spoken to Ryan a couple of times and he knows what I think about him and I think he has high regard for me too. We've got a mutual respect and I think he enjoys it here.
"I hope the challenge of League One and playing under myself will excite him, it seems to at the minute."
