Dons and Swindon to hold talks with former Arsenal striker

AFC Wimbledon and Swindon Town are locked in a battle to sign Adam Birchall after Dover Athletic accepted offers from the League Two rivals. Skysports.com revealed earlier this month that Birchall had handed in a transfer request after scoring 45 goals for Dover last season. The non-league club subsequently rejected a 'joke' offer from Gillingham, but have now accepted 'significant undisclosed bids' from the Dons and Swindon. Former Arsenal youngster Birchall is keen to get back into the Football League and is now ready to discuss personal terms with his two suitors. Birchall told Dover's official website: "I just want to say to the Dover fans that the only reason I want to leave the club is to play League football. "If Dover were a League side, I'd stay here for many more years to come - but this is perhaps my last chance to play on the League stage. "Dover Athletic are a very special club and I'll never forget my time here. Last season, with the FA Cup run especially, was my greatest ever."
