Manchester City have moved quickly to deny suggestions that Gareth Barry could leave the club.

Giorgio De Giorgis, who is City boss Roberto Mancini's agent, represents reported target Ezequiel Lavezzi of Napoli.

Speaking in Italy, De Giorgis claimed that Barry could be used in a possible exchange deal for Lavezzi.

But City have been quick to deny that Barry's future at the club is in doubt.

A City spokesperson confirmed: "Mr Giorgis is not mandated by the football club to deal with transfers in or out of Manchester City.

"Furthermore, there is no intention to sell Gareth Barry, who remains a valued member of the team."

City have been forced to tread a diplomatic line due to Giorgis' status and tellingly there was no rejection of his claim that an interest in Lavezzi exists.
