AZ Alkmaar are keen on USA international Jozy Altidore but admit they need to offload a striker before adding another goal threat.
Altidore, who spent a season on loan with Hull City, is reportedly available for transfer from Spanish outfit Villarreal.
AZ's technical director Earnie Stewart says talks are underway while he remains hopeful the club will be able to land the 21-year-old.
However, he admits that the club must offload one of their attacking options before they can formalise Altidore's signature.
"We are in talks with Jozy," Stewart MLSsoccer.com.
"He's a good player and we have interest in him, but we'll have to see if it can work out.
"That can only happen if one of our strikers leave."
