Skysports.com understands that Charlton have won the race to sign Oldham's Dale Stephens.
It was revealed last week that a host of Championship and League One clubs were chasing the midfielder, but Valley boss Chris Powell has been successful.
Stephens joined Oldham in the summer of 2008 after beginning his career at Bury but has been loaned away from Boundary Park on two occasions.
The 21-year-old underwent brief spells at Rochdale and last term at promotion-winning Southampton before returning to Oldham at the end of the season.
With Stephens' stock continuing to rise, Charlton are set to complete a deal which will be a major bonus ahead of another attempt to earn promotion back to the Championship.
