Scunthorpe have attempted to clarify the situation regarding their offer of a new contract to Michael O'Connor by responding to claims made by his agent.
O'Connor's representative, Freddie Akehurst, revealed over the weekend that his client had been left 'disappointed' at being asked by the club to take a pay cut.
The midfielder has one year remaining on his current deal and is planning to stay at Glanford Park to try to help the Iron bounce back from relegation to League One.
And Scunthorpe have issued a statement on their official website to make it known they made O'Connor what they thought was a good offer in an effort to secure his future.
The statement read: "Michael O'Connor is under contract until 30th June 2012.
"The club have offered him an immediate increase in salary in an effort to extend his contract and a further increase if we are in the Championship, which would be an improvement on his current Championship salary.
"This offer was turned down last week by Michael O'Connor's agent."
