Kay: Huddersfield keen to agree fresh terms with utility player before his contract expires

Huddersfield boss Lee Clark is eager to resolve the future of Antony Kay with his contract due to expire at the end of the month.

Kay, who can operate in both midfield and defence, joined the Terriers on a two-year deal from Tranmere in 2009 and has yet to agree fresh terms with the Galpharm Stadium outfit.

The 28-year-old former Barnsley man played a key role in helping the Terriers reach the League One play-off final last season and is held in high regard by his manager.

Clark confirmed that discussions are ongoing with Kay's agent and remains confident that a deal could be struck before the end of next week.

Never sulks

"Antony's a good player with a good attitude," Clark told the Huddersfield Examiner.

"He never sulks or complains, and if he's not in the side, he just gets his head down and works hard to get back in.

"I want him to stay, but we can't let things drag on, and I want the situation sorted by this time next week, because the more of your players who go through pre-season in its entirety, the better.

"We're in talks with him and his representatives, and hopefully we'll make progress in the next few days."
