Steve McClaren has confirmed Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard is one of the players he is considering to boost Nottingham Forest's attack.
Skysports.com revealed earlier in the week that Forest are one of several clubs chasing Maynard, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate.
Leicester City saw a bid for the former Crewe Alexandra forward turned down and the Robins are adamant they will not sell to a rival Championship club.
McClaren has conceded his interest in Maynard, but says he is not the only player he is monitoring as he looks for Forest to make a statement of intent in the transfer market.
"We need to make our intentions clear," said McClaren in the Nottingham Evening Post. "That is the key for us.
"What we want to do; what the chairman wants to do is make a statement.
"We need to show our intent. We need to show people where we want to be; where we want to go.
"The players we bring in have to match that.
"We have been linked with Nicky and I cannot say there is not an interest in him, because it is out there already.
"We need somebody who can score goals in the Championship. But there are quite a few on the radar, there are a few players we are looking at."
