Skysports.com understands that Charlton are ready to lodge an offer for Oldham's Dale Stephens.
A host of Championship and League One clubs have been chasing the midfielder with the Addicks set to make their intentions known with a bid.
Stephens joined the Latics in summer 2008 after beginning his career at Bury but has been loaned out away from Boundary Park on two occasions.
The 21-year-old underwent brief spells at Rochdale and last term at promotion-winning Southampton before returning to Oldham at the end of the season.
With the midfielder's stock continuing to rise, Charlton look to be the first to test the resolve of their League One rivals as Paul Dickov's side prepare for another run at promotion to the Championship.
