Barnsley director Don Rowing is keen to keep Jason Shackell at Oakwell despite a reported third bid from Derby.
The Rams are understood to have made an 'improved offer' for the Tykes defender, with reports in the Derby Telegraph claiming the latest bid for the 27-year-old could be in the region of £1million.
Shackell, who has two years left to run on his contract, is expected to meet Barnsley manager Keith Hill later this week to discuss his future.
But the South Yorkshire club's director Rowing insists he wants Shackell to remain at Oakwell.
Very good player
He said: "Our fans should know that we want to keep Jason at the club.
"He's a very good player and had a very good season for us.
"He has two years left to run on his contract but a lot depends on what the player wants to do.
"The manager and Jason are expected to speak towards the end of the week, so until then, we don't know what's going to happen."
