Marc Albrighton is determined to fill Ashley Young's shoes at Aston Villa if the winger completes his move to Manchester United.
England international Young appears on the brink of a switch to Old Trafford after undergoing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the Premier League champions.
Albrighton, who can play on either wing, has been forced to take a back seat to the likes of Young and Stewart Downing at times this season.
But the 21-year-old intends to pounce on the chance for a regular spot if Young completes his United switch.
"From my point of view, I've got to see it as an opportunity to try and claim that place," Albrighton told Sky Sports News.
"Last season I had great competition with Stewart Downing and Ashley Young on both wings.
"I was fighting with them to try and get the place. They are two great players and I was learning off them in training.
"Hopefully I can take that into my game now and look to stake a claim for next season."
England Under 21 international Albrighton is confident Young will impress at Old Trafford if the transfer materialises.
He added: "Ashley has done brilliantly for the club over the past four seasons. Nobody can question his loyalty.
"He's been brilliant for us and he wants to go and better his career now.
"If he gets this move completed to Manchester United I'm sure he'll do wonders there."
